1)
Introducing Leximancer run by Justin Debuse of the
University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and Julia Cretchly from Leximancer.
This workshop will
introduce the Leximancer text mining system, which can perform thematic
analysis automatically on unstructured data such as interview transcripts
and Web pages. A demonstration data set will be provided to allow hands-on
experience with the system. Participants are invited to bring along
their own research data for analysis.
2) Grounded Theory Workshop run by
Walter Fernandez from the Australian National University (ANU) and Hans
Lehmann (Victoria University Wellington NZ)
This workshop will help grounded theory researchers to address their
particular research issues from the methodological standpoint. This
is a hands-on seminar in which participants present their studies and
collectively work on the resolution of particular issues under the guidance
of two experienced grounded theorists as facilitators.
In order for the workshop to run effectively, interested participants
need to email a one-page submission to walter.fernandez@anu.edu.au
and hans.lehmann@vuw.ac.nz
with the following information:
a) Research abstract
describing the research problem
b) Stage of the research so that the presentations can be sequenced
effectively
c) Up to two key issues/problems you would like to discuss with the
group
Participants are
expected to be researchers who are using grounded theory methods and
are prepared to be active workshop participants by contributing ideas
constructively and to the resolution of problems. However, observers
are also welcome.
Recommended readings: Seminal works on grounded theory (Glaser, 1978,
1998; Glaser & Strauss, 1967).

Introducing NVivo 9 (released just prior to QualIT)
run by Sue Bullen of QSR International. This workshop is open to all
delegates and will last only an hour. It is distinct from the full-day
NVivo Training workshop to be run on Sunday 28th November at an extra
cost to registrants.
Be amongst the first
in the world to see a live demonstration of NVivo 9, the next generation
of qualitative data analysis software. We’ll draw on a real project
to showcase the new features:
